Abstract
This study attempted to estimate the values of immunoglobulins and complement 3 in nephrotic syndrome and normal healthy persons.
In the present report, the values of the immunoglobulins(Ig G, Ig A and Ig M) and complement 3 were measured by Hyland Laser Nephelometry in sera of 50 healthy persons and 17 patients with nephrotic syndrome.
The results were as follows.
1. In 50 normal controls, the mean value of the IgG was 1036¡¾215.54mg/dl, the IgA 276.44¡¾104.88mg/dl, the IgM 162. 12¡¾77.77mg/dlnd the C3 154.77¡¾ 42.44mg/dl.
2. In nephrotic syndrome, the mean value of the IgG was 579.06¡¾229.95 mg/de, the IgA 237.64+101. llmg/dl, the IgM 162.12¡¾77.77mg/dl and the C3 90.25+ 35.87mg/dl.
3. The mean values of the IgG and C3 were significantly lower in the nephrotic patients than in the normal controls(respectively P<0.001), and the IgM higher in the nephrotic patients than in the normal controls(P<0.01), but there was no significant difference in value of the IgA between nephrotic patients and normal controls.
4. To the amount of the 24 hour urine protein, the serum levels of the IgG had inverse correlation(r=-0.75), the IgM had a positive correlation (r = 0. 69) and the C3 had not any correlation.
